Essence Velvet Matte Lipstick Review

I'm into velvety kind of lipsticks lately that's why when I saw that Essence launched their new line of lipsticks on their instagram account, I was happy to see that it's a Velvet Matte line. I got excited and patiently waited until I saw them on display at my local Kruidvat. I think I was the first one to swatch the testers that day. It was probably the first day they were on display which was a lucky day for me to check the store.

I've tried there matte lipstick before but was not really impressed with the shades but this collection has really great shade range. I also did like their Essence Colour Up! Shine On! Lipsticks but their older collection with matte lipsticks, I was not really impressed by it that much and decided to give it away.

But this collection has really amazing formula and anything "velvet" kind of lipstick, I want to try it. It is more like a lighter and hydrating formula than your regular matte lipstick and it's not totally matte as well which I like. It has a bit sheen to it and they just glide and blend so smoothly on the lips. It's really comfortable matte formula that's why I prefer this kind of lip product than a matte longlasting liquid lipstick (which I'm over it already).

This is how the packaging looks like. It is in a matte plastic packaging which is light and I love that the lid color is corresponding the shade of the bullet which is easier to see when you are looking for a lipstick to wear especially when you are in a hurry and don't have time to check one by one the bottom part of every lipstick you have. It's just quick to choose and grab and that is really a nice touch for me. I just don't like that it's bulky and also looks like a toy almost. Like a makeup you won't take seriously. But as what they say "Don't judge the book by its cover" since the most important thing is the lipstick itself and not the packaging. If they are amazing but the packaging is not really my cup of tea, I can look past it. Besides it's what the inside counts most, right?

This is how the bullet looks like. They have letter "e" embossed on it like the other lipsticks they have. It smells like a candy as well which does not linger for a long time. I only bought 4 shades since the other shades are not really calling me.

The shades that I got are:

03 Dusty Romance - a mauve pink kind of shade

07 Craving For You - a coral pink shade

10 Greedy Coffee - my fave! a brick red shade

09 Red Velvet Cake - a cherry red shade

Gradient lip effect: Shade 10 (all over the lips) + Shade 09 (on the center part of the lips)

I got them at Kruidvat. They retail for €2,39 each. There are 11 shades available but they don't sell shade #4 and shade #5 tester is missing that's why they are not included in my swatches below.

Here are the swatches of all the shades (except the missing ones)

Overall, I'm really impressed with this line especially the shade #10. The formula is so pigmented , opaque and they glide so smoothly and evenly. No streaky areas whatsoever. They do transfer so you need to retouch them after eating but I always need to retouch anyway no matter what lipstick I use after I eat. To know more my thoughts and how they look in action.
